  • Terra State Community College was founded as Vanguard Technical Institute in September 1968, a night school at Vanguard Vocational Center. In 1969, The Ohio Board of Regents declared Vanguard Technical Institute a state institution of higher learning authorized to grant associate degrees in applied business and associate degrees in applied science. In 1973, the college was renamed Terra Technical College. Work began in 1969 on a new campus for Terra on Napoleon Road west of Fremont, and Roy Klay Hall, the first building, was named in honor of Terra’s founding president. Terra Technical College became Terra State Community College in the summer of 1994, and associate of arts and associate of science degrees were added to the associate of applied science degrees granted by Terra. In 2017 Terra State broke ground on “The Landings at Terra Village”, becoming the second community college in Ohio to house residential students. Terra State is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
